MerQur — Welcome

Preface

Dear researchers, beloved students, and everyone interested in academia,

MerQur was developed with the aim of providing a simple, integrated, and accessible solution to the fundamental problems frequently encountered in academic research. Over the years, in my own work and in the research processes of our graduate students, I have repeatedly encountered the same questions:

“Which analysis should I use?”
“How should I interpret this result?”
“How do I turn the analysis output into an academic report?”

These needs were exactly the starting point of MerQur.

The platform has been developed over many years to enable researchers to carry out analysis, visualization, and reporting processes within a single system. Especially for interdisciplinary researchers and those needing native-language resources, the goal was to make the process from data loading to result reporting as clear, fast, and comprehensive as possible.

Today MerQur offers parametric, non-parametric, categorical, regression, survival, spatial analysis, and machine learning methods needed across many fields — medicine, education, sport sciences, agriculture, landscape architecture, architecture, natural sciences, social and human sciences, and engineering — all under a single interface.

This platform consists of three main sections:

  • Features tab introduces MerQur’s analysis modules and workflow structure.
  • Disciplines tab contains discipline-specific analysis examples aligned with the Higher Education Council (YÖK) associate professorship core fields.
  • Basic Statistics tab provides guide content that explains statistical concepts in plain language.

MerQur was developed to contribute to the academic community. For this reason, academic use will always remain free of charge.

I sincerely hope that MerQur contributes to your research and facilitates your academic production processes.

I dedicate MerQur to the two principal components I have lost — my beloved mother and father,
Nevin & Tuncer ÖRÜCÜ

🙏 Acknowledgments

I owe a debt of gratitude first to my dear wife and colleague Seda Örücü, who contributed to the intellectual foundation of this program and, recognizing my interest in computing and data analysis, encouraged me by including me in their projects — and to my esteemed colleagues Süleyman Gülcü, Oğuzhan Sarıkaya ve İsmail Şen.

With gratitude.

Research and Areas of Expertise

Geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies, machine-learning-based species distribution modeling, biodiversity research, assessment of the impacts of climate change on ecosystems, digital spatial analysis and data processing methods, and the development of computer-aided decision support systems.

Developed Software

Within the scope of his academic work, he has developed numerous original software products running on different platforms. These can be grouped according to their intended use:

  • As desktop software: HABITUS — a standalone desktop application designed for habitat suitability and ecological analyses.
  • As QGIS plugins: GeoClassify, CRESTA, Ecometriq, BiWPA, MAST ve EroSense — developed as plugins integrated with the open-source QGIS platform. These plugins provide practical solutions in landscape ecology and environmental modeling, including spatial classification, ecological metric calculations, biodiversity and water-quality assessment, multi-criteria spatial analysis, and erosion susceptibility modeling.

The most recent product of these efforts, MerQur, was released in open access for the Turkish academic community in 2026 following an extensive research-and-development process.

Digital Platforms

Two digital platforms are maintained for announcing developed software, sharing academic content, and supporting the user community:

🙏 Süleyman Demirel University Rectorate ve Department of Information Technology for their support, I extend my sincere thanks.

The technical architecture of MerQur is built entirely on the open-source ecosystem. The main tools used in development: Python, pandas, NumPy, SciPy, statsmodels, matplotlib, lifelines, Visual Studio Code ve Anthropic Claude Code. I extend my respect and gratitude to the developer communities maintaining these projects.
